ENGL 1203 "Introduction to Film Studies" introduces students to key concepts and critical approaches in Film Studies, including genre theory and Auteur analysis. The course explores film as artistic expression, national ethos, and cultural representation, engaging questions of race, gender, ethnicity, and identity. Though it addresses film history, it is not structured chronologically. The course is organized into five units: Style and Narrative; The Auteur; Film Genres; Identities on Screen; and National Cinema. Students examine narrative techniques, directorial influence, genre conventions, identity politics, and cinema’s socio-political context, gaining analytical tools to interpret films within diverse artistic, cultural, and national frameworks
