One of the most critical skills that sociology students should develop is the ability to do independent research and discuss the implications of their findings. The purpose of this course is, therefore, to help equip students with a fundamental theoretical and practical understanding of how to design and complete sociological research (qualitative and quantitative). Students will learn and apply relevant sociological research skills for conducting both literature-based and empirical research. In doing so, they will gain a practical understanding of the interrelationships between theory, research question, and methodology. In the first semester, we shall focus on qualitative research design and methods, and in the second semester, we shall concentrate on quantitative research design and methods.
