The ability to conduct independent research and investigate social issues and policy interventions is one of the most critical skills that sociology students should develop. For this reason, this course is designed to guide students in learning how to write a focused research proposal and complete the proposed project. Students will gain hands-on experience in generating and situating a research question in the literature and explaining the relevance of the chosen theory and methods for answering the research question. They will also develop a practical understanding of how to analyze data, present and discuss the results, and draw out relevant conclusions from the findings. Students are encouraged to use this course to identify, develop, and work on a specific sociological project that interests them.
