The central aim of Journalism 1113 is to help students to develop the skills necessary for clear and effective (and innovative) storytelling. We will therefore focus not only on paragraph construction and organization, but also on sentence structure and variety, grammar, punctuation, spelling, diction, and revising and proofreading (and to some extent, documentation). We will also emphasize the importance of critical thinking and reading via discussions of various written and visual (and other) texts. Classes will involve lectures, discussions, and occasional exercises/drills.
