This course explores intersections between the terms queer and media: representations of queer(nes)s in contemporary media, theories about how sexual identity emerges through complex forms of social mediation, and how queer countercultures have mediated (or intervened into) forces of hetero-normativity. Media forms include public monuments, DIY zines, comic strips, indie films, television, AIDS education pamphlets, novels, poetry, theatre, as well as critical theory.
