This course intends to broaden your exposure to (1) different social problems and their consequences within and outside Canada and (2) various theoretical perspectives from which these problems can be understood and tackled appropriately. Multiple topics, including health disparity, economic inequality, race and ethnic relations, gender relations, sexualities, crime and violence, and global inequality, will be critically examined. By the end of this course, you will gain increased awareness about how to help address social problems through collective and individual actions. The course will help you to improve your research and critical thinking skills. You will also develop a foundational understanding of entrepreneurship by focusing on how you can turn social problems into opportunities to benefit society.
