Students in the Advanced Poetry Workshop will explore the many creative possibilities of poetry. Six two-week writing assignments, and a chapbook/final project, introduce students to common and uncommon subjects, forms and literary devices of poetry. Each assignment includes a writing week, followed by a workshopping week.

During the writing week, the prof will introduce students to the assignment, discuss the requested form, and also bring to students a poem by an established writer. Students may chose to do the assignment or to write a response to that week’s poem by an established writer instead.

Further requirements involve attending a poetry reading during the term (in person OR online; a pass/fail assignment), and creating an entry for the Atlantic Canadian Poets’ Archive.
