Calendar Description
Most professional social workers must learn to practice within the framework of human service organizations. This course will provide students with the knowledge and practical skills to assume leadership and management positions in public and nonprofit organizations. Students will learn how to develop and lead effective and ethical teams and organizations that value diversity and build the capacities of staff and service users.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Articulate and evaluate their personal approach to leadership and supervision.
2. Assess their roles and responsibilities as organizational change agents.
3. Articulate how social work values and ethical responsibilities guide practice I management, leadership, and supervision.
4. Explain the distinction between Western and Indigenous worldviews and how these distinctions inform leadership styles/approaches within different organizational contexts.
