This course explores geography education beyond maps, emphasizing relationships with places near and far. Teacher candidates engage in interdisciplinary, inquiry-based, and experiential approaches, integrating language arts, science, social sciences, and mathematics. Through hands-on, collaborative learning, candidates examine local, regional, and global issues while designing community and land-based teaching resources. Grounded in geography education’s philosophical and theoretical foundations the course aims to prepare teacher candidates to create meaningful, place-based learning experiences.
