This course provides an overview of criminal law, explaining what it is, its development, and the key components of offences and defence mechanisms within Canada’s criminal law system. Topics include sources of criminal law in Canada, duty to act, voluntariness, negligent homicide, causation, strict and absolute liability, attempts, and various criminal defences such as mental disorder, mistake of fact, consent, provocation, and necessity.
