Session 2 Plan

Early in the session (Monday and Tuesday)

  • View my Session 2 mini-lecture
  • View the 10 mins or so of the Lynn Hunt lecture that I have assigned. The lecture is over 50 mins total, but it is only a very specific part that you are required to watch. The required minutes are highlights when you open the link for the Lynn Hunt lecture but I believe it is chapters 8 thru 10 or 11.
  •  Do the assigned reading. The short story will be the basis of your practice close reading and it will be familiar to those who took introduction to human rights with me last year or with Dr. Szurlej.

Mid-session (Wednesday and Thursday):

  • Small groups will complete their first close reading. This close reading will be a test run for the ones that receive grades. You will receive feedback before you start working on the next close reading.

Anytime before the end of the session:

  • Whole class discussion: do you buy into Lynn Hunt's argument that the novel played a role in the development of human rights?

At the end of the session (Friday - thru the weekend if needed):

  • Small group close readings should be posted where assigned. Usually, you will be asked to read and comment on the work of the other small groups. This week you do not need to do that.
  • Fill in the Session 2 row of your Participation Self-Assessment chart
