This course will enable you to further develop the listening, speaking and note-taking skills required in academic settings, building from ESL 1033.  Recorded lectures from a variety of disciplines will be used to improve your listening and note-taking abilities; you will also practice your speaking skills in activities such as interviews, self-reflections and individual presentations.  Exercises to improve your pronunciation and intonation will also be part of the class.

The reading techniques that will be further explored include skimming, scanning, previewing, predicting, reading critically, and in-depth analysing. The types of writing that will be practiced will include paraphrasing, summarising, and essays. Vocabulary building and grammar will also be important components of this class.
